Sinclair HVAC & Plumbing Safety Tips from Beth Sinclair

daylight savings image

Hello everyone! Just a friendly reminder that daylight savings time ends this weekend. This means that it is time to “fall back” and change the time back one hour.  Another fun tip that I’d like to share is that I always check and/or change the batteries in my smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when the time change occurs.  This is so important because if you do not have your furnace checked out by one of our professionals, how do you know your heating system is operating safely?

What does a furnace repair and check consist of? (Not the same for electric air handlers)  One of our technicians will look inside the heat exchanger and check for cracks.  This is very important because a crack in the heat exchanger is the main cause for carbon monoxide.  If the exchanger compartments are dirty, he will vacuum it out so the unit burns more efficiently.  He will also visually check all other compartments of the furnace to make sure it has no chance of breaking down.  The last step the technician performs is the most important and that is checking for carbon monoxide.  All of our technicians come equipped with carbon monoxide detectors on their trucks, so that you know exactly what your system is blowing into your home.  I could only hit the hight points for this blog, if you want more information go to the help page or call.

Since winter is rapidly approaching Lubbock, do not forget to have your heating system checked by our certified technicians.  Go to our contact page and sign up for a furnace repair and check today.  Or call 806-749-COOL (2665).

Heating Tips for the Winter

insulated hosebib in west texas

Winter is almost here! Fortunately in West Texas the winter months are not severe, but there are days when it does get very cold.

Here are a few tips from Sinclair to help you stay warm this winter:

1.  Make sure you have your heating system checked out by our technicians before it gets too cold.  This is very important because when the hard freeze hits Lubbock you don't want to be at the end of a very long list!

2.  CHANGE YOUR FILTER(S).  "I have a filter?!"  Yes, every system needs some type of air filtration system.  This is important because clogged air filters can cause a furnace to quit operating.  Changing your filter is a quick and easy fix can save you a lot of money in the long run.

3.  Insulate outside faucets or pipes.  This tip can save you money and is very cost effective.  Broken pipes are not cost effective.

Sinclair HVAC and Plumbing's Monthly Recipe

Fajita plate

From Beth Sinclair's Kitchen as per request: Crockpot Fajitas

1 small arm roast
1 ¼ cup pinto beans, rinsed
1-2 sliced white or yellow onion
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 small can diced green chilies
2 cans Rotel
½ cup water
chili powder
ground cumin
pepper
garlic salt

Spray crockpot with Pam.  Sprinkle spices on bottom.  Add roast and sprinkle with spices.  Layer beans, onions, and green chiles on top of meat.  In separate bowl, mix water, soup, and Rotel tomatoes.  Pour mixture on top of roast.  Cook on low for 12 hours.  DO NOT TAKE LID OFF WHILE COOKING.  Serve with flour tortillas.

**If you are short on time, make this recipe the night before, put in refrigerator overnight; start crockpot the next morning. Put another ½ - 1 cup water. Cook for 12 hrs.

From Daniel Sinclair of Sinclair HVAC & Plumbing:  If you have a request for a recipe, if you liked one of the recipes you saw on the blog, or would like to post one of your own, please let me know.  Lubbock is known for having great mexican food and this recipe is another reason why I love fajitas so much!
